Hello:The grapes used in this wine are different from what my research indicates.  In Vini Italiani, the recipe for Orvieto DOC is 40-60% Trebbiano Toscano, not the 30% listed above, 15-25% Verdello, with rest being Grechetto, Canaiolo Biano and/or Malvasia Toscana.  There is no mention of either Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc in the recipe. How can the producer include the grapes as listed above and still call it Orvieto? I’d be interested to know.

Supposedly, the family who owns this winery (whom also own Tenuta San Guido of Sassicaia fame) have petitioned to allow Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc into the blend. They believe this adds depth and complexity to the wine, but in my opinion also makes it more marketable to americans.
